A RESOLUTION
;1 ENDORSING THE ENACTMENT OF HOUSE BILL 634
WHEREAS, the public school systems of Texas have been annually
receiving vitally needed fiscal assistance to fund Driver Education Programs
and
WHEREAS, this funding has assisted in reducing the out-of-pocket
cost of Driver Education to public school students; and
WHEREAS, this Federal funding has enabled the cities of Texas to
provide vitally needed driver training to the youth of the State; pnd
WHEREAS, local citizens are severly affected by the spiraling and
unprecedented rate of inflation, which is stripping them of their hard earned
income; and
WHEREAS, current inflationary rates are undermining the ability of
the public school systems to provide driver training to their students within
reasonable and acceptable levels of local taxation; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 634 will provide for the funding of Driver
Training throughout` the state of °$xas by providing essential fiscal relief
from the devastating impact of the termination of Federal funds; and
WHEREAS, the termination of Federal funding will leave the local
chool districts in the untenable position of either having to increase the
level of driver training or raising taxes and/or out-of-pocket fees;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT, the City Council endorses House Bill 634 and calls for its
nactment by the 64th Legislature in order to assure vitally needed financial
ssistance for the Driver Training Programs in the public school districts of
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent t
the Governor of the State of Texas and Representatives R. B. McAllister,
Elmer Tarbox and Senator Kent Hance.

RESOLUTION
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the MAYOR of the CITY OF LUBBOCK, BE and is hereby
authorized and directed to execute for and on behalf of the CITY OF
LUBBOCK an .;AMENDMENT to a FIRE PROTECTION AGREEMENT
between the CITY OF LUBBOCK and LUBBOCK COUNTY, attached
herewith which shall be spread upon the Minutes of the COUNCIL and as
spread upon the Minutes of this COUNCIL shall constitute and be a part of
this Resolution as if fully copied herein in detail.

ADDENDUM
TO
FIRE PROTECTION AGREEMENT
THE STATE OF, TEXAS §
§ KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS:
COUNTY OF LUBBOCK §
WHEREAS, the Commissionerts Court of Lubbock County; Texas and
the City of Lubbock entered into a Fire Protection Agreement providing for
fire protection outside the limits of the City of Lubbock for a period beginning
September 30, 1975; and
WHEREAS, both parties to such agreement des ire to amend this agree-
ment by adding thereto a new paragraph 2A; NOW THEREFORE:
WITNESSETH:
THAT the Fire Protection Agreement. entered Into between the Com-
missioner's Court of Lubbock County, Texas and the City of Lubbock HE
and is hereby amended by adding thereto a new paragraph 2A which shall
read asfollows:
2A. The County hereby agrees and obligates Itself to pay to the
City of Lubbock, at the rate stated in paragraph 2 above for regular fire calls,
for each call for assistance from ambulance services or law enforcement
agencies for necessary emergency calls. Necessary calls, as used herein,
shall mean the assistance of the City of Lubbock fire department to use its
equipment and personnel in emergency situations, such as the extricating
of persons from dangerous places or the use of specialized equipment and the
expertise of the City of Lubbock fire department. A description of the nature
of such call and the service performed shall be forwarded In the same manner
as regular fire response calls.
