HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 011575A - Canvas Returns & Declare Results - Special City Election - Held 1_15_75 - 01_15_1975KJ:dw A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL CITY ELECTION HELD ON JANUARY 15, 1975 BE IT REMEMBERED THAT on the 16th day of January, 1975, the City Council of the City of Lubbock met at 5:00 o'cloc:k P. M. in special session in compliance with the charter provision, at the regular meeting place of the Council in the City Hall, in the City of Lubbock, with the following members present, to -wit: On motion of Counci ]man Campbel 1 , seconded by Councilwoman Jordan , it is unanimously carried that the returns of the Special City Election, held January 15, 1975, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the City of Lubbock for adoption or rejection proposed amendments to the existu Charter of the City of Lubbock, be opened and canvassed, and the results thereof declared therefrom; and said returns having been duly canvassed, it is found that the votes for the various proposed amendments are as follows: AMENDMENT NO. 1 The Amendment of Sections 1, 2, 5, 13 and 15, Article xX, Chapter 1 of the City Charter of the City of Lubbock that provides for the governing body of the City of Lubbock by providing that the City Council shall be composed of a Mayor and six (6) Councilmen with three (3) Councilmen residing in geographical wards. All to be elected at large. FOR 1,862 VOTES AGAINST 4, 835 VOTES AMENDMENT NO, 2 The Amendment of Section 2, Article IX, Chapter 1 of the City Charter of the City of Lubbock by providing that no person shall serve more than two terzrs as Mayor or Councilman or a combination thereof. FOR 2, 382 VOTES AGAINST 4, 294 VOTES IfQ:dw AMENDMENT NO. 3 The Amendment of Section 14, Article IX, Chapter 1 of the City Charter of the City of Lubbock by providing for annual comp- ensation to the Mayor not to exceed $6, 000. 00 and to each Councilman not to exceed $4, 800. 00. FOR 1,341 VOTES AGAINST 5,325 VOTES AMENDMENT NO. 4 The Amendment of Section 5, Article VII, Chapter 1 of the City Charter of the City of Lubbock so as to require a public sale for bonds and Certificates of Obligation of the City sold for cash. FOR _ 3,015 VOTES AGAINST 3),516 VOTES And it further appearing that said election was duly held as provided by law; NOW THEREFORE: IT IS THEREFORE FOUND, DECLARED AND CERTIFIED BY THE CE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: That a majority of the qualified voters of the City of Lubbock are in opposition to Amendments No. 1, 2, 3 and 4; therefore such proposed Amendments are hereby rejected.
