Re: Workers' Compensation Coverage
To Whom It May Concern:
The Lubbock County Hospital District was created pursuant to the Texas Constitution,
Art. K §9, and by special legislation, Acts 1967, 60'h Legislature, Chapter 484, as
amended. The Hospital District owns and operates University Medical Center. The
Hospital District is a "political subdivision" under the Texas Workers' Compensation Act
§ 504.001(3).
The Texas Workers' Compensation Act §504.011 allows a political subdivision to
provide workers' compensation to its employees by becoming a self -insurer. Therefore,
the Hospital District has elected to become a self -insurer for the employees of University
Medical Center.
The Hospital District maintains and administers such self-insurance funds as necessary to
meet all claims.
