HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 5875 - Authorizes Name Change- Historic Fort Worth & Denver Depot To Buddy Holly Center - 05_28_1998Resolution No. 5875 Item No..36 May 28, 1998 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock owns the Historic Fort Worth and Denver Depot and intends to use the site as the location to house and display a -Aide variety of visual arts exhibitions, educational programs and outreach initiatives, special events, and the presentation of collections and artifacts relevant to the lives of West Texas musicians and songwriters; and WHEREAS, one of the principal collections will be the City of Lubbock's Buddy Holly memorabilia; and WHEREAS, the Culture and Arts Commission has studied the issue of renaming the Historic Fort Worth and Denver Depot and surveyed local citizens for potential names; and WHEREAS, the Culture and Arts Commission recommends that the City Council of the City of Lubbock rename the Historic Fort Worth and Denver Depot to the Buddy Holly Center; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to rename the Historic Fort Worth and Denver Depot to the Buddy Holly Center, NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK THAT the Mayor of the City of Lubbock BE and is hereby authorized and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Lubbock, a name change for the Historic Fort Worth and Denver Depot to the Buddy Holly Center Passed by the City Council this 28thday of May 1998.
