RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Lubbock's municipal airport was redesignated the South Plains
Army Airfield during World War II and used as a major military glider pilot training
base; and
WHEREAS, the Silent Wings Museum presently located in Terrell, Texas, houses
an extensive collection of military glider archives and artifacts; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock deems it to be in the best
interests of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to cooperate with the Silent Wings
Museum Foundation and the Texas Aviation Heritage Foundation, Inc., to bring the
Silent Wings Museum to the Lubbock International Airport, NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby declares its full and
complete support of the effort to bring the "Silent Wings Museum" of World War II
military glider operations to Lubbock, especially since Lubbock's South Plains Army
Airfield was a major training site for World War II combat glider pilots.
Passed by the City Council on this 26thday of February , 1 8.
