HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 091373B - Coucil And Parks & Rec Board Endorse Canyon Lake Site As New State Park - 09_13_1973RESOLUTION WHEREAS the State Parks and Wildlife Commission is actively seeking a site for a large State Park in the High Plains Area of West Texas; and WHEREAS Lubbock County contains the greatest concentration of population on the High Plains and should be one of the areas considered; and WHEREAS the Lubbock area's major topographical feature is Yellowhouse Canyon; and WHEREAS an Engineering feasibility study for the City of Lubbock Canyon L, Project proposes an 8800 acre recreational site southeast of Lubbock, Texas, whi includes a 1600 surface acre lake and identified as lake No. 8 on the Canyon Lakes Project plat attached hereto; and WHEREAS the City of Lubbock is actively engaged in construction of Phase I (in town lakes) of the Canyon Lakes Project which would add to and compliment a large State Park and Lake 8 in this lake system; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City Council and the Parks and Recreation Board of the City of Lubbock endorses the lake site described above as the site of a new State Park and urges the State Parks and Wildlife commission to consider such property in its deliberations.
