RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, American Legion George S. Berry Post #575 and the City of
Lubbock, desire to honor and remember the men and women who have served their
country in times of armed conflict with a candlelight ceremony at 6:30 P.M. on the
evening of December 6, 2003, at the Lubbock Area Veteran's War Memorial at Henry
Huneke Park; and
WHEREAS, in addition, these men and women will receive recognition and
honor in a special dedication ceremony at the Lubbock Area Veteran's War Memorial at
Henry Huneke Park at 2:00 P.M. on the afternoon of December 7, 2003; and
WHERERAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock finds it to be in the public
interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock and a public purpose to support the special
ceremonies remembering the men and women who have served their country in times of
armed conflict and honoring the veterans of Lubbock and the surrounding area; NOW
THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby expresses its approval and
support for the proposed candlelight ceremony at 6:30 P.M. on December 6, 2003 at the
Lubbock Area Veteran's War Memorial at Henry Huneke Park to honor and remember
the men and women who have served their country in times of armed conflict and a
special dedication ceremony at 2:00 P.M. on December 7, 2003 at the Lubbock Area
Veteran's War Memorial at Henry Huneke Park to honor veterans of Lubbock and the
surrounding area.
The City Council hereby approves and authorizes the performance of a flyover in
conjunction with the ceremonies on December 6 and 7, 2003. The City Council hereby
further approves and authorizes the use of Henry Huneke Park and City equipment,
including four trolleys from Citibus, and staff, including Officers of the Lubbock Police
Department, in cooperation with American Legion George S. Berry Post #575 in the
planning and conduct of the ceremonies on December 6 and 7, 2003.
