HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 052269C - Amendment To City-County By-Laws - 05_22_1969�y JOINT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock and the Commissioners Court of the County of Lubbock heretofore agreed to the joint operation and admix tration of a City --County Health program including a City -County Welfare Depart- ment; and WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock and the County of Lubbock deem it expedient and in the public interest to change the composition and number of directors com- prising the City -County Welfare Board; and WHEREAS, such Advisory Board was created by the said governmental units and further.. Section 4 of Article VIII of the By -Laws of the Lubbock City -County Welfare Board, provides that such By -Laws may be amended by a joint resolution of the City Council and the Commissioners Court; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF I�UBBOCK AND T COMMISSIONERS COURT OF THE COUNTY OF LUBBOCK, ACTING JOINTLY: Section 1. THAT the By -Laws of the Lubbock City -County Welfare Board BE and are hereby amended by adding a new Section 2 to Article II thereof which shall hereafter read as follows: "Section 2, The City -County Welfare Board shall be composed of seven (7) members whose qualifications and terms of office shall continue to be those established in the Joint Resolution ` authorizing the present City -County Welfare Board. (a) The governmental unit, either the City of Lubbock or the County of Lubbock, which contributes the major portion of the funds available to such City -County Welfare Board is henceforth entitled to appoint the majority of the City - County Welfare Board; that is, the major contributor shall be entitled to appoint four (4) members to the Board, with the lesser contributor appointing three (3) members to the Board. (b) The change in the number of directors and the method of appointing succeeding directors shall take effect upon the resignation or expiration of term of any of the present directors of the City -County Welfare Board. In the event such resignation or expiration of term still leaves the Board with a number exceeding seven (7), no replacements shall be appointed, but in the event resignations or expiration of terms enable appointments to be made within the limit of seven (7) directors, such appointments shall be made in accordance with the method set forth in Subsection (a) above." Section 2. THE above amendment to the By --Laws of the Lubbock City -County Welfare Board shall become effective upon and after the passage of this resolution by the City Council of the City of Lubbock and the Commissioners Court of the County of Lubbock.
