WHEREAS: West Texans have traditionally valued regional cooperation and exemplify
the spirit of friendship, of goodwill, and of being a good neighbor in their commitment to
our region; and,
WHEREAS: Common West Texas interests such as agriculture, cattle, oil and gas,
transportation, education, economic development, and protecting and conserving precious
water resources bind together our region and join us together in an advocacy for our
many common goals; and,
WHEREAS: The loss of political strength on the State and Federal level creates concern
and the need to reaffirm our solidarity on common goals and issues that face all cities,
towns, and communities across West Texas; and,
WHEREAS: With the Texas Legislative Session now underway and with an increasing
need to have a strong voice in Washington, D. C. regarding issues that will affect the
future of West Texas, regional solidarity and cooperation are of paramount importance,
NOW, Therefore, we the City of Lubbock, Texas do hereby express our intention to
support those efforts that foster regional cooperation and we encourage other City
Councils and County Commissions to join us in collectively seeking regional solutions to
issues that affect the interests of West Texas.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK
THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby adopts this resolution
supporting regional cooperation in all legislative matters.
