HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2528 - Encourage Donations From Citizens For Liver Transplant Funds - 02_26_1987Resolution #2528 February 26, 1987 Agenda Item #4-c DGV:JS RFCl11 IITTl1A1 WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council of the City of Lubbock that there is a recurring need for funds to finance liver trans- plant operations for children in the Lubbock and West Texas area; and WHEREAS, at the present time, two West Texas area children, Janette Montoya, who is six months old, and Jenny Blizard, who is six years old, are in extreme need of liver transplants; and WHEREAS, it requires a minimum of $100,000.00 per child to get on a waiting list for a liver transplant; and WHEREAS, Lubbock General Hospital has established a Liver Fund Founda- tion with accounts for both Janette and Jenny; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Lubbock have always responded in a positive and generous manner to such emergency situations in the past; and WHEREAS, the gift of life should not be withheld because of a lack of economic resources; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the citizens of the City of Lubbock and the surrounding area are hereby urged to make donations to the Liver Fund Foundation of Lubbock Gen- eral Hospital at P. 0. Box 53023, Lubbock, Texas, 79453, on behalf of Janette and Jenny so that they may receive the liver transplant operations necessary to give them an opportunity to live a full and healthy life. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City Secretary is hereby directed to mail a copy of this Res- olution to the following: 1. All banks and savings and loan institutions within the City of Lubbock; 2. All service clubs and organizations within the City of Lubbock; and 3. All churches within the City of Lubbock. All of the above named organizations are hereby requested and encouraged to assist in this effort.
