HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 071367G - Street Improvements - Pioneer Pavers Inc - Peoria Avenue - 07_13_1967y i j- RESOLUTION .-/ RESOLUTION ACCEPTING IMPROVEMENTS ON PORTIONS OF ALLEYS, STREETS, AND/OR AVENUES AS LISTED BELOW AND ORDERING THE ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES IN EVIDENCE OF ASSESSMENTS LEVIED. WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock heretofore passed various street improvement ordinances and resolutions and entered into contract with Pioneer Pavers, Inc. G.W.O. 2907 for the making and construction of street and/or alley improvements on portions of numerous alleys, streets and/or avenues in said City including among others the following: Peoria Avenue from its intersection with a line 18.00 feet South of the South Property Line of 22nd Place to its intersection with a line 109.81 feet South of the South Property Line of 23rd Street, known and designated as Sub -Unit Number 4 of Unit Number 2147. AND WHEREAS, the improvements upon the said portions of the abovementioned alleys, streets and/or avenues, have been inspected and found to have been con- structed in accordance with terms of said contract G.W.O. 2907. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS: I. That the improvements on said portions of the abovementioned alleys, streets, and/or avenues be and the same are hereby accepted, and the City Engineer be and he is hereby authorized to direct payment of the City's portion of the cost and release escrow money. II. That the Mayor and City Secretary be, and they are hereby instructed to execute and deliver certificates in evidence of the assessments levied against the parcels of property abutting upon the said portions of the alleys, streets and/or avenues listed above and against the owners of such property in accordance with law and in the manner provided in said contract, and the proceedings with reference to said improvements and assessments where such assessments were levied. Fred 0 Senter, Jr., CitytJ ooney PORTER 2-6411 BOX 2000 Honorable Mayor and City Council Lubbock, Texas Gentlemen: LUBBOCK, TEXAS 7 9 4 0 8 July 13, 1967 I have examined the paving improvements constructed by Pioneer Pavers, Inc., paving contractor, under their contract dated February 10, 1966, designated as G.W.0 2907 and find the improvements on Peoria Avenue from 22nd Place to 24th Street as listed on the final estimate and assessment sheet to have been completed in accordance with the plans and specifications and recommend that you accept the improvements on said streets and/or avenues, authorizing payment to the contractor the amount shown on the attached consolidated final estimate sheet as due them by the City of Lubbock and issue assignable certificates against property owners for the respective amounts shown on the attached final assessment sheets as being due against them and their respective properties. WHEREAS, there exists a strong community of interest between the cities of Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene, Waco, College Station -Bryan and Houston, Texas, as well as other intermediate cities; and WHEREAS, there is no single highway of the first class connecting such cities; and WHEREAS, there is a tremendous traffic of people and goods between the cities and especially to and from the Port of Houston; and WHEREAS, such a highway would be a major link between South Texas, on the one hand, and Denver,Coloradb, and Albuquerque, New Mexico on the other; and WHEREAS, such a highway would open to South Texas the vacationlands of New Mexico and Colorado, and totthose states the Port of Houston; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the innumerable advantages of such a highway, the City of Lubbock wishes to show its support for such a route and for the formation of a planning committee therefore, to be known as the Port -Plains Freeway Association; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock agrees in principle with the aims and objectives of the Port -Plains Freeway Association. SECTION 2. THAT a highway of the first class between Amarillo, through Lubbock, Abilene, Waco, College Station -Bryan, to terminate at Houston, be constructed at the earliest possible date. SECTION 3.
