Now that the Charter Study Committee has completed its study of the City
Charter and submitted its recommendations to the City Council and the situation
surrounding the firemen has been resolved to the satisfaction of all, the members
of the Board of City Development are recommending to the City Council that a
Charter election be called at an early date.
It is our feeling that it is good for a city to periodically review its Charter
as the Lubbock Charter Study Committee has done. It is good for the citizens of
a community to be knowledgeable of -the Charter and to participate through our
election processes in keeping the document current and completely workable for
the good of the community.
We believe strongly in our election processes and that our citizens should all
have the privilege of voting on the issues confronting the community. This
certainly includes the Board of City Development. We welcome the forthcoming
election concerning thOvital and important part of our community.
We, of course, believe strongly in the Board of City Development. We are
proud that Lubbock has such an organization aid has benefited from it down
through the years. We are confident that as the citizens of Lubbock receive the
full and true facts surrounding the operation of the Board of City Development,
they will want to keep the organization and its work for a better Lubbock.
