WHEREAS, Public Transit is a necessary and vital service to the citizens of
Lubbock, Texas; and
WHEREAS, the operation of a public transit system requires that it be
subsidized; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that future transit deficits become less dependent
on the City's General Fund and Federal Operating Assistance; and
WHEREAS, a Private Enterprise Committee composed of representatives from the
private sector, including Minority businesses, can plan and develop proposals for
financing public transit in Lubbock; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS:
THAT a Private Enterprise Committee be created to develop proposals for
financing public transit, which would be less dependent on the City's.General Fund
and Federal Operating Assistance, and to report their findings to the Lubbock
Transit Advisory Board before September 1, 1984, at which time the committee will
dissolve; and
THAT the committee be composed of seven (7) persons to be appointed by the
City Council from the following:
One member of Transit Advisory Board
Two Representatives of Large Employers of Lubbock
One Representative of Chamber of Commerce/BCD
One Representative of Minorities with Business Experience
One Representative of Senior Citizens with Business Experience
One Representative of the Handicapped
Passed by the City Council this loth day of May , 1984.
