The first of July, 1962 ended the 1961 - 1962 National Fleet Safety
Contest. The Lubbock Police Department drove 42 police cars a total of
1,719,666 miles with a total of 16 police car accidents. This gave said
Police Department a rate of 9.31 accidents per 1,000,000 miles driven.
Last year during the 1960 - 1961 contest the Lubbock Police Department
drove 1,614,904 miles and during the 12 month period had 20 police car ,.
accidents, and ended the contest with a average of 12.40 accidents per
1,000,000 miles driven. 94,762 more miles were driven during the 1961 -
1962 contest than during the 1960 - 1961 year, with 4 less accidents.
At the end of 10 months when the Lubbock Police Department received the
latest results, they were in 2nd place. The leading Police Department
drove almost 3 times as far as did the Lubbock Police Department and
had 51 accidents.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
LUBBOCK, TEXAS, that said City Commission hereby go on record as com-
mending the Lubbock Police Department for their fine safety record.
