RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, dilapidated and deteriorated housing is a blight on our community
and a drain on the property tax base of the City, County and Hospital District, and
WHEREAS, dilapidated and deteriorated housing is an issue of health and safety
for citizens of Lubbock living in these conditions, and
WHEREAS, it is unacceptable, morally, politically, socially and economically to
have people living in dilapidated and deteriorated housing because affordable alternatives
do not now exist, and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to have a housing stock that is free
of dilapidated and deteriorated housing, and
WHEREAS, replacing the dilapidated and deteriorated housing with simple,
decent, affordable housing will positively impact the economy and tax base of the City of
Lubbock, and
WHEREAS, the Lubbock Housing Consortium has undertaken the task of
developing the initial framework and set a goal of eliminating dilapidated and
deteriorated housing in the City of Lubbock by the year 2020 or sooner.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the City of Lubbock heartily supports the Lubbock Housing Consortium
and its partner agencies in their efforts to meet the goal of Lubbock's 21s Century
Challenge of eliminating dilapidated and deteriorated housing in less than 20 years.
Passed by the City Council this 11tb day of October , 2001.
