L. Head, Commander Allen Brothers post Number 148 American Legion Lubbock, Texas Dear Mr. Head: At their regular meeting August 11, 1955, the City Commission authorized an offer of $32,500.00 for the American Legion Post Building located in Block 87, Original gown. This offer represents an acceptance of your Building, Committee's recommended sale price, The Commission also considered and rejected the Building Committee's proposition to sell the remaining portion of the lease of the area on which the building stands for $20,000.00. It was the thinking of this body that since the lease was granted by the City for a consideration of only 1.00 per year, they should not authorize further consideration for the remainder of the lease a ,reerent. Since normal depreciation of a building is approximately 1/25 per year and since the lease has been in effect for 25 years the Commission feels that their offer of $32,500.00 for the Legion Building and lease agreement is fair and should be given the serious consideration of the members of Post Number 148. Yours very truly, H. P. Clifton Acting City Manager AEI:m cc: Lavenia Lowe, City Secretary To: The City Commission. From: VEEW Subject: Summary Of American Legion Lease Property North of City Hall. Fifty year lease made March 22, 1930, expires. March ZZ, 1980. Twenty-five years to go. At termination. Legion may remove improvements without injury to leased car .adjoining property. City may take possession if Legion does not use premises for Legion Post and kindred organizations. VAUG?rHN E. WILSON City attorney a: • a #fit ! ": " . + '`" Ijdlirr .1 ►:.
