HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 102055E - Land Aquisition - Municipal Airport - Clear Zones, N-S Instrument Runway - 10/22/1955 OR R E S O L U T I O N -0; WHEREAS, :the Presidentts Airport Commission in their report dated .� May 16, 1952 determined that clear zones beyond the ends of instrument runways were necessary to reduce the danger from accidental over runs r on landings or from aborted take offs, and WHEREAS, the aforesaid recommendation of the PresidentIs Airport Commission has been implemented by the inclusion of such runway clear e zones as first priority items under the Federal Aid Airport Program, and x qy WHEREAS, the Lubbock Municipal Airport Board has recommended that `r the general safety and welfare of the users of the Lubbock Municipal Airport, together with the general safety and welfare of the neighbors of the Lubbock Municipal Airport requires the acquisition of clear zones for the protection of the N-S instrument runway at the Lubbock Municipal Airport, and )IJ 11BEREAS, the acquisition of clear zones is necessary to protect the large investment of Public Funds in the Lubbock Municipal Airport, and { Wh'ERIAS, the continued use of the Lubbock Municipal Airport as an airterminal is, required by the Public Convenience and Necessity, and WHEREAS, in keeping with the recommendation of the Lubbock Municipal Airport Board, the City of Lubbock did enter into a Grant Agreement with the United States of America for the acquisition of these clear zones as a. Federal Aid Airport Project on May 12, 1955, NOW THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COXXISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TECAS THAT% SECTION 1a The public convenience and necessity requires the acquisition of one thousand feet by twenty-seven hundred feet clear zones at both the North and South ends of the W.-S instrument runway at the Lubbock Municipal Airport, Lubbock County, Texas, as shown in red on Exhibit "An attached hereto, being tracts A, B, C, and D on the attached Exhibit "At'. SECTION 2: That the public safety and welfare requires the acquisition of the clear zones aforesaid. i i i t=021DS5 a SECTION 3: That the right--of-way agent of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized and directed to secure proposals from the land owners of the areas shown:on Exhibit "0 for the purchase of said lands by the City of Lubbock. SECTION 4: That the right-•of«-way agent of the City of Lubbock is further authorized and directed to secure appraisals of the land areas aforesaid. Upon motion of Commissioner Baker seconded by Commissioner Forrest , the foregoing resolution was approved by unanimous vote of the City Commission of the City of Lubbock, this 20th day of October, 1955• I arre 11 R.
