Mr. Steve Matthews
City Manager
City Hall
Lubbock, Texas
Dear Steve:
Enclosed herewith is copy of a letter DeWitt Greer wrote me under date of
April 11, 1952, which is self-explanatory.
On June 17, 1952, we gave you our then estimate of population of 96, 095.
You presented that estimate to the City Commission and they passed a
resolution, copy of which is herewith enclosed.
We have just completed our estimate of Lubbock's population as of January 1,
1955, and come up with the figure of 117, 886. This estimate is a result of the
formula we have used down through the years, which formula is accepted by
the Bureau of Business Research of the University of Texas and a number of
other rating agencies. It is so good that our estimates in census years have
been within one per cent of the actual census figures.
We will appreciate it if you will present this estimate of 117, 886 to the City
Commission in order that they may take the necessary action and get this
figure on our city limit signs.
I will appreciate you furnishing me copy of the notification you send to DeWitt
and we will play it up properly in THE HUB ---- and in the newspapers --- when
the signs are corrected.
Sincerely yours,
A. B. av s, Manager!
