HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 060850L - Highway Department Requested To Widen_Improve U.S. Highways 87, 84, & 62 - 06_08_1950 i M EREAS, the Highways listed below run throuJh the City of Lubbock and constitute main streets, and said Highways are paved approximately twenty-four 049 feet pride at the locations listed, and, WHEREAS,, the traffic has increased to such an extent that the narrow pavement creates a hazard and inconvenience to the traveling public, and, TVH=S, the elevation of:the existing pavement relative to adjacent property is not best for proper use of the street and cross draina-et and, WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission of the City of hubbock to have the pavement widened to a total width between curbs as outlined below for' each locations 1. U. S. Highway 87 (South Avenue H) from 29th Street to 46th Street. Proposed width, sixty-four (64t) feet. Total length, 5,600 feet. 2. Lower and widen U. S. Highway 84 (34th Street) from U. S. Highway 87 East to and around the Cemetery curve ust East �^ of Quirt Avenue. Proposed width, sixty-four (64t� feet# Total length, 8,000 feet. 3. Widen U. S. Highway 84 (Avenue Q. Northeast, or Clovis Road) from South property line of Auburn Street NortheWto College Avenue. Proposed width, sixty-four (649 feet. Total length, j 3,100 feet. 4. Widen U. S. Highway 62 from 19th Street Southwest to the intersection with 26th Street extended. Proposed width, sixty-four (64t) feet. Total length, 4,500 feet; A grand total of 16,700 linear feet, and, as it is understood that . the State Highway Commission will provide the l(A-rering and widening of pavement if the City will build the curb and gutter; TIEREFOREp BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COM11ISSIOd OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, IN REGULAR SESSION, THIS $ DAY OF June , 1950; ,I a THAT, the Highway Department is hereby requested to widen and improve the Highways and locations as set out above; I THAT, the City of Lubbock will provide all nec.gssary right-of-Fay clear f 'Obstruction an free of property damage,, and will'-provide for the immediate od p rty g , �^ construction of continuous curb and gutter, utility adjustments, storm sewers, I i 1 etc., all as may necessary for a complete project with the exception of pavement widening, and will assume responsiblity for-the construction of drive- ways and sidewalks should they be deemed necessary now or in the future. THAT, The Texas Highway Department, after the City has fulfilled its responsiblities, will provide for pavement widening and its support within these limits. THAT , it is understood that the responsibility of the Texas Hi h .'• ., P Y g ray Department is confined to the pavement and its support and all other features necessary now or in the future to provide an adequate travel facility shall be the responsibility of the City of Lubbock. It is further agreed that the City of Lubbock will maintain that; portion of the work which is its construction responsibility and will pals such resolutions and ordinances in accordance with standard forms of the Highway Department to indemnify the State durir)g 'and after construction against any and all liability or damage growing out of such construction, to regulate traffic,to provide for parallel parking and to prevent encroachment on the right-of-way.
