HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 1222D - Support Legislation Regarding Signatures Upon Petitions Or Initiatives - 09_23_1982RESOLUTION 1222-D - 9/23/82' TML Legislation DGV:js RESOLUTION WHEREAS, many different state laws provide conflicting requirements with regard to signatures upon various petitions or initiatives for various pur- poses; and WHEREAS, such varied requirements provide much room for error in signa- ture validation requirements for various petitions or initiatives; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock believes it to be in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock and of the entire state to have such validation requirements made standard and placed in a single location, such as the state Election Code; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock believes that the right of citizens to petition their government is very important and that such matters should be as clear and concise as possible; and THAT requirements for signature validation on all petitions and initia- tives should be standardized and placed in a single location, such as the State Election Code; and THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby gives its support to legislation designed to accomplish such purpose.
