BEING APPROXIMATELY 10 ACRES OF LAND LYING SUBSTAN- TIALLY AT THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE MADDOX ADDITION, AND L FOURTH STREET, AND THE TECH FREEWAY, AS DESCRIBED BY METES I AND BOUNDS IN THE BODY OF THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR EXTEN- SION OF THE CITY LIMITS AND CORPORATE BOUNDARIES TO ANNEX THE AREA; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION AND FINAL .PASSAGE UNDER PRO- �F [� VISIONS OF SECTION 3 A, ARTICLE I, CHAPTER ONE OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, AND EXTENDING THE CITY LIMITS TO [.fx..., tINCLUDE SAID AREA. W H E R E A S , the Commission finds that the area hereinafter described is in line of development, growth and expansion being experienced by the City of Lubbock, that its annexation has been requested, and the Commission further finds that annexation of the described area will be in the best interest of public health, morals, safety and general welfare, and the Commission is authorized to annex the same under those Charter provisions; THEREFORE, r ��.aa'� E� BE IT ORDAINED BY THE. That the following described area abutting and adjacent to the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock, described by metes and bounds, to -wit; A tract of land out of the North One-half (N 1/2) of Section One (1), .-� Block E-Z in Lubbock County, Texas, being an addition to the cor- porate limits of the City of Lubbock: Copies If sent for jP BEGINNING at a point on the present City Limits line, said point Bld. Insp{j being on the North line of said Section One (1), Block E-Z, Lubbock City Engrg County, Texas, and being 1027.5 feet West of the intersection of City Atty., said North line of Section One (1), Block E-Z and the Northwest Planning right-of-way line of the Seagraves Branch of the Panhandle and Lloyd Rosd Santa Fe Railway Company; THENCE South a distance of 873. S feet more or less to a point on the Southeast right-of-way line of the Seagraves Branch of the Pan- handle and Santa Fe Railway Company, said point being on the pres- ent City Limits line; THENCE Northeasterly, Northerly and Westerly along the present City Limits line to the POINT OF BEGINNING; Containing 9. 7200 acres, more or less, BE, and the same is hereby annexed to and included within the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be forthwith published in a daily news- paper published in the City of Lubbock, Texas, one (1) time, and shall not be thereafter finally acted upon until at least thirty (30) days have elapsed after such publication, and if finally passed in its present form, the boundary limits of the City of Lubbock shall thereby be fixed to include the area, territory and extension described in Section 1 (One) of this ordinance. YOUNG LAWYER 3103 - 21st Ste Lubbock., Texas September 71 1954 The City Commission City Hall Lubbock, Texas In Re: Proposed Armory -Organized Reserves - National Guard - On the Campus of Texas Tech Gentlemen: There has been executed by the Board of Directors of Texas Technological College, a Lease for 99 years to the Texas National Guard Armory Board, for the purpose of building an armory, and other buildings to be used by the Texas National Guard and the Organized Reserves, the following tract of land, containing 7.5 acres, described by metes and bounds as follows. "Being a part of and out of the norther -L of Section 1, Block E-2 in Lubbock County, Texas, and being more particularly described by metes and bounds as follows: Beginning at a point in the north boundary line of the said north- il section, said point being 247.6 ft* west of the intersection of the said north boundary line of the said northweot 3 section and the northwest right-of-way line of the Seagraves Bran -of the Pan- handle and Santa Fe Railway Company; Thence west along the said north boundary line of the said north- eaot I section, a distance of 779.9 ft- to a point; Thence south, a distance of 750 ft-, more or less, to a point in the northwest right-of-way line of said Railway Co.; Thence N. 530 53r E- along the said right-of-way line of said Rail- way Company, a distance of 'ft-, more or less, to a point; I /Co8.7 Thence west parallel to and 60 ft. distance from the said north boundary line of said northoset section, a distance of 165.4 ft- to a point; Thence north, a distance of 60 ft. to the point of beginning. Part of such tract, as we understand it, is within the city limits. It is desir- able that the remainder of such tract be annexed. We discussed this matter with Mr. Vaughn Wilson, City Attorney, and Mr. Holmes of the City Engineering Department on Saturday morning last, September 4. Mr. Wilson suggested that if a request was received in time the annexation would be placed upon the agenda for the meeting of the Council on September 9. It is understood that the above field notes will need to be verified by an actual survey of the tract which perhaps will be done, in order to establish the boundaries on the ground at the time of the annexation. It is understood that actual construction of the first unit of the armory will be commenced without undue delay. It will be appreciated, therefore, if steps of annexation can be started on September 9.
