to be returnable to the Commission on July 26, 1926 for consideration.

LUbbock,'Teras, has heretofore passed a resolution ordering the raising,
grading and fiilina of, and the building of sidewalks upon, Broadway
(12th) Street, between avenue C and College Avenue, in the town of
Lub•�ock.Texas, and has approved plans and` speuifiic4teiernoffor such
improvements prepared i,} L.R.Smith, Jr., y y.
(Copy of which plans and specifications may be had at said City 3ngi-
neer's office in the City Hall, Lubbock,Ter:az,)and further notice is
hereby Liven that, after lepal publication of this notice, that sealed
bids will be received and condidered for the construction of said i^,-
provements of the 26 day of July, 1926.
The total cost of said improvements shall be ta•:ed and levied
against the abutting property and the owners thereof, and shall be due
ten days after completion thereof and acceptance by the City.
All bids shall be accompanied by a certified check for $25.00.

Bidders must submit a unit price per sq.ft. on the sidewalk, stated

1. The 3tanda.rd Form of Agreement between Owner and Contractor as a-
dopted by the Texas Section of the tmerican Society of Civil _nginee
Oct. 28, 1921, will be substantially followed as to corm of L,.r'l ent'ral
and to general Conditions of the Agreement.
2. Payment.
The entire cost of the sidevialks is to be paid by the property owner,
in cash, on or before 10 days after completion and acceptance of the
improvements.
3. Abstract of Property.
The successful bidder shall „e required to fubnish a list of all prop-
erty on the street which is to have sidewalk constructed - airing the 11
names of owners, frontage owned, description, etc. The cost of said
abstract, as well as the printing and furnishing of property owners'
certificates is to be paid by the contractor.
4. Rat -_-r.
The water is to be procured by the contrwtor at his own e�:jense and
arran?ements.
5. Contract & Bond.
The contract shall be substantially of the Form ao furnished by the
City.
The Bond required shall be the same as required by the ::i tt Ordinanoeg!
regarding bond for contractors doing side,nalk work in the City of
Lubbock,Texas.

IV, MATIZIAL3 OF CONSTRUCTION.

;. Cement.
Cement used in all construction work shall be Portland Cement con-
forming in all respects to the specl2ication3 and tests of the Amer-
ican Society of Testing Llaterials, aerial designation C-9-21.

Sand shall constst of clean, hard, durable drains of sand free from
injurious amounts of Clay, loam, organic matter or other substances
injurious to concrete. It shall not contain more tht- 9, of silt,
and shall all pass 4 inch screen and 95p shall be retained on a 100
mesh sereen.
3. Coarse Aggregate
Shall consist of gravel of clean, hard, durable, uncoated particles,
free from injurious amounts of soft, friable, thin, elongated,or
laminated pieces, alkali, loam, clay, organic matter, or other dele-
terious materials. It ohall be reasonably uniformly gard:d from
largest to smallest sizes, the largest sizes r&sing t: two inch
(round) opening and 95p shall be retained on & 4 inch screen. Pit
run gravel may be used if approved by the Engineer.
4. ;lat er .
Water shall be clean and free from all substances injurious to con-
crete.
5. E—pansion Joints.
Shall be Careylastite prepared e-cpansion joints or equal, z inch
thieh, 4 inches wide and 5 ft. long,

L. Subgrade
Shall be finished to & depth of four inches below the finished ?rade
of the walk. `
In daces where fill is necessary the materiels for fills shall be
placed in six inch layers, wetted and well tamped before additional
fill is made.
The subgradw shall be slightly %'et and well coml&ted before any con-
crete is poured.
2. Forms.
Shall be of lumber 2" thick. They shall be rigidly held to line and
gm de by stakes and braces.
3. Thickness and Proportions of Base Course and Topping
The base course shall be -,- inches thick comlosed of concrete in the
proportions of 1 l art ceu:ent, 2 parts sand, 4 parts ?ravel, for pit
run gravel, 1 part cement to five parts pit run �r&vel.
The topping shall be inch in thickness com osed of one part cement
and two parts :and.
4. Ilixing.
The concrete shall be mixed in an approved miler for at least one minute
after all materials are in the miner. The cement and aggregates shall
be accurately measured for each batch mixer and only enough water used
to produce a workable mix, rartic'ular attention must be given to the
measuring of cement and aggregates and of the amount f viLter used.
5. Placing and finishing.
The concrete shall be placed immediately &iter mixing. The base shall
be thoroughly combatted by tamping ai ii shall be otruc.: off with a tem-
plate which ahall leave it - inch below the finished surface.
The topping shall be placed on the Luse couse within 45 minutes after
the base couse is laid. It shall be struck off tnd gi•ren a amooth trowel)
finish, unle3s otherwise directed by the ::nzineer.
6. Jointing.
The walk shall be cut into rect&ngul&r slabs not longer than 5 feet on
any side. The joints shall be formed by cutting the Tartially hardened
concrete through to the subor&de. The surface edges of each slab shall
