The "ity Commission of the lity of Lubbock, Texas, met at 10 A.M.
In Recessed Regular Meeting Recessed from degulf,r Meeting of
Eovember 12, 1931, at the Regular Meeting Place in the City Hall,
the following members thereof being :resent, to--.dt:
Mayor J.J. Clements, Commissioners Geo. E. Benson, dno. Roach,
L.N. Leaverton, City itttorney is.L. Klett, pity tanager ,.H.
Rodgers.
Absent: Commissioner J.r. r;acon and City :secretary J.L. Holt.
Motion by i4r. Leaverton, seconded by fa. Benson, the following
resolution carried unanimously.
74MFAS, the City komnission of the City of
Lubbock, 'Texas, unierstands that a hearing will be held at
Austin, 'texas, by the Railroad Commission of 'Texas on
November 23, 1931, to consider a large mu"ber of applications
for contract motor carrier pernits to haul cotton over the
highways of texas; arid,
Ili.RT�AS, this Commission believes that the present
col:mon carrier service rendered the citizens of the City
of Lubbock, 'Lubbock County, and surrounding territory by
existi C rail carriers and rptor carriers is adequate and
sufficient to serve the needs of this territory and fully
serves the convenience and necessity thereof for purpose of
hauling cotton to Gulf Points; and,
WHEREAS, if additional permits are granted for such purpose
additional operations will extend through the pity of Lubrock
in Lubbock County, and that the additional proposed service
will create and maintain an excessive and undue hazard to the safety
and security of the traveling public, and to the property upon such
highways, and such additional use of said highways and the
streets of this City will greatly damage, if not destroy, said
highways and streets.
NOW, TI?EREITRE, Be it resolved by the city Commission of
the City of iubbock, 'Texas, that the Honoratle rtailroad
Commission: of 'texas, be, and it is, hereby requested to deny
any other or additional permits to oper_te motor trucks over
the highways of this County and through the City of iubbock
for purpose of hauling cotton to Gulf Points; and,
Re it further resolved that this resolution be,
and the same is hereb,- adopted by the City Commission of
the city of Lubbock, 'Texas, this 19th day of November, 1931,
and that a copy of this resolution be filed with the
Railroad Commission of Texas, as evidencing the opposition
of the city authorities and citizens of this City of the
granting of any additional pernits for contract rotor
carriers to haul cotton.
