WHPRRAS at a regular neeting of the City Council of the City
of Lubbock, Texas, held on the 1?th.,day of October, A.D.1911, there
was passed and adopted at the said Meeting a Resolution instructing the
City EnCD
gineer, I,.A.Kitchcock, to prepare specifications for fourteen
(14) fdot sidewalks hereafter to re built in the City of Lu' hock, Texas,
and,
WFFRFAS the said L.A.Hitbhcock having prepared and presented
the following specifications which appear to the said City Council to
be good and sufficient, therefore

that hereafter all fourteen (14) foot sidewalks to be built within the
said City of Lubbock shall conPorm to the following spe^ifications:

THE WIDTH: --The said sidewalks are to be built 14 feet wide,
the inner side or the side next the property to conform to the property
line. The outer edge ort he side next the street to conform to the
outer edge of the curb as said curb is hereinafter described, and the
said sidewalks shall be built to conform to the following require-
ment s%
BASL:--- The base, or concrete shall be four (4) inches thick
and shall be compared of cne part of best Portland Cement, by measure,
to two parts of sharp,clean, screened sand, and four (4) parts of
crushed stone or ramxkwtxX washed gravel free from dust, dirt, or coal
and not more than one (1) inch in its greatest diameter.
WF,3MTNG SURFACES— The wearing surface, or dressing shall be
of the thickness of one (1) inch, composed of two parts, by measure,
of. best Portland Cement and three (3) parts of good sharp clean screened
sand or fine crushed substantial stone or Granite properly screened t.
through one-fourth(1/4) inch mesh screen. The wearing surface shall
be carried up simultaneously with the base, or concrete, and before the
base or concretes can set. All walks shall be cut through the concrete
tn blocks four feet two inches by four feet eight inches, or as near
thereto as practicable. Whenever it becomes necessary for these di-
mcnsions to be varied, permission to do so must be obtained from the
Mayor or his duly authorized agent.
CURB:--- The curb shall be constructed in a solid mass, di-
vided clear through to conform to the divisions alaixthe sidewalk
along which it may be constructed, and the concrete shall be composed
of the came materials similarly proportioned and laid as above set
out for the concrete of the walks.

Of the sidewalks shall be laid on the top andttie street dace of 1 he said
curb for a distance of not less than twelve (1?) inches from the top
of the said Curb, When completed, the curb shall be six inches trick
and twenty-one (?1) inches high.

GRATIS:-.---The sidewalks and ,curbs must be laid to the grade
established by the City Engineer, and in case any sidewalks now existing
or that may be built are not in conformity with the grade and various
requirements above set out, it shall be the duty of the owner of the
siad property to so construct or re-construct such sidewalk or curb so
that it will conform to the various requirements herein set out,
FILLING: Whenever it shall become necessary to fill any N
In plane in order that the sidewalks may conform to the established
grade, when completed the earth or material used in filling shall be
thoroughly tamped.
COVERING:-- Whenever it is deemed necessary by the Mayor or
his duly authorized agent the surfdce of any sidewalk shall be covered
with one-half inch of damp sa nd until the same has properly set.
GENERAL:--okil the materials used in the construction of side-
walks and curbs herein mentioned shall be duly approved by the Mayor
or his duly authorized agent, as well as the workmanship performed.
