WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock pledged an all-out effort and every
assistance to secure additional paving from Lubbock to Reese Air Force Base
to the United States Air Forces as a condition precedent to the reactivation of
Reese Air Force Base, and,
��fe.ctjfr WHEREAS, the United States Air Forces first asked for the paving of
an extension of 4th Street from the City of Lubbock to the Base but later, after
finding from a survey that the 4th Street extension would be of very little ser-

.1. / in Lubbock live South of 19th Street and West of College Avenue, they asked
our assistance in securing the widening of the Levelland Highway from the City
of Lubbock to the Base to a four -large highway, and,
C-i2t�WHEREAS, this said highway, State 290, carries more motor vehicles
{— per day than any other highway entering Lubbock with perhaps one exception,
and,
w..; WHEREAS, State Highway 290 serves the oil fields to the West and
Southwest of Lubbock, said oil fields generating a tremendous amount of truck
traffic as well as passenger vehicle traffic, and,
WHEREAS, the Commissioners' Court of the County of Lubbock has
made an official request for,the widening of State Highway 290 from the junction
of said highway with Federal highway 62 West to or beyond Reese Air Force
Base to a four -lane highway and pledged the right-of-way therefor, THEREFOR]
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the State Highway Commission be asked to widen State Highway
290 from the City of Lubbock to the access road to Reese Air Force Base
and/or beyond to a four -lane highway.
Passed and approved by the City Commission this 18th day of
September , 1951.
