RESOLUTION FF
WHEREAS, the Federal Bureau of Public Roads under the Federal Highway Act
lof 1962 now requires that the States shall have a Transportation Plan for all cities
lover 50, 000 population; and,
WHEREAS, the State Highway Department to comply with this requirement has
scheduled the preparation of such a Transportation Plan for each of the twenty-two
metropolitan areas within the State of Texas by the year 1965; and,
WHEREAS,, the City of Lubbock as one of these metropolitan areas ranks amor.
thirty fastest growing areas in the Nation and ninth anion the cities in the State
Texas in population; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock has increased in population eight per cent from
1950 to 1960, and such growth is substantially continuing; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock has more than doubled its area since 1250. -and,
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock is continually planning and constructing addi
ajor street facilities; and,
WHEREAS, such Transportation Plan will include studies on traffic origin and
destination, street capacity, time and delay factors, parking, mass transit; and,
WHEREAS„ the last origin and destination study on traffic was made in 1950.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY O
LUBBOCK:
THAT the State Highway Department is hereby requested to give consideration
to the initiation of the Transportation Plan for the City of Lubbock at the earliest
possible date so that planning and capital expenditures for transportation facilities
by both the City and the State Highway Department may be more accurately projected
and so thht such projects may be so planned and developed as to best serve the needs
of the City of Lubbock and the area and be properly coordinated with State Highway
Departmetrt program in and around the City of Lubbock.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
