WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that a need exists to pro-
mote conventions and tourism in the City of Lubbock; and
WHEREAS, such promotion is essential to the successful operation of
the Memorial Civic Center and the other convention and tourism facilities
within the City of Lubbock; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the Mayor of the City of Lubbock BE and is hereby authorized t
enter into an agreement with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce for the esta
blishment and operation, on a short-term basis, of a Convention and Tourism
Bureau;: The approximate term of this temporary agreement shall be from
date of agreement until November 1 1976.
THIS temporary agreement shall be replaced with an agreement with
non-profit corporation organized and chartered for the purpose of promoting
Conventions and Tourism in the City of Lubbock.
THE temporary and the permanent agreements shall include but not b
limited to the following:
(1) The Bureau shall be governed by a Board of Directors
consisting of five members to be appointed by the City
Council for terms of 3 years.
(2) An advisory committee shall be composed of represen-
tatives of the tourist and convention industry and other
interested citizens and include the Civic Center Director.
(3) The Board of City Development and the City of Lubbock
shall each contribute $50, 000.00 per year for the first
three (3) years of operation. After three (3) years, the
Board of City Development may contribute up to a sum
equal to 10% of Board of City Development tax funds
received and the City shall match the Board of City
Development funds With the City contributions derived
from receipts of the Hotel Occupancy Tax.
