HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2011-R0356 - Elect To Hold Regular Elections In May Of Even Numbered Years - 08/11/2011Resolution No. 2011-RO356 August 11, 2011 Item No. 6.6 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Senate Bill 100, passed during the regularly called session of the 82nd Legislature, adopts certain voting procedures necessary to implement the federal Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act, alters deadlines for declaration of candidacy and alters dates for certain elections, and allows for changes to the terms of certain elected officials; WHEREAS, Senate Bill 100 provides the City of Lubbock with several options with regard to its election calendar; WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock has until December 31, 2012 to make changes, if any, to its election calendar; and WHEREAS, other local governmental entities have expressed a desire for the City of Lubbock to indicate how, if at all, it will alter its election calendar; WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock desires to give notice to other local governmental entities in Lubbock County, Texas of its intentions; NOW THEREFORE.: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby elects to hold the City of Lubbock's regular elections in May of even -numbered years; and THAT the City Secretary and City Attorney shall take the necessary actions to give effect to this Resolution.
