HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2023-R0194 - LPD Inscription Exemption for VehiclesResolution No. 2023-R0194 Item No. 6.34 April 11, 2023 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the State of Texas has established procedures regarding the issuance of license plates exempt from registration fees and inscription requirements for political subdivisions; and WHEREAS, regular license plates exempt from registration fees and inscription requirements are available to agencies that are exempt by designation of the governing body of a municipality under Texas Transportation Code §721.005; and WHEREAS, the need to designate vehicles used by various City of Lubbock ("City") personnel using City owned vehicles for official business of the City exists; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT all vehicles used in the City of Lubbock Police Department shall be exempt from the inscription requirements established by Chapter 721 of the Texas Transportation Code; and THAT the Fleet Support & Acquisition Coordinator or the Fleet Administrative Assistant for the City's Fleet Services, or their equivalent, are hereby authorized and directed to execute all documents pertaining to exemption from the inscription requirements established by Chapter 721 for said vehicles assigned to the City of Lubbock Police Department. S nior Assistant City Attorney RES.LPD Inscription Exempt Vehicles 3.20.23 "W�(- Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Application for General Issue License Plates for Exempt Vehicle(s) Instructions Submit the completed application and any required attachments to your local county tax assessor -col lector's office to obtain general issue license plates for vehicles exempt from the payment of registration fees. Each vehicle must be titled in the name of the governmental entity. If applying for title, attach the Application for Texas Title and/or Registration (Form 130-U). If an application for title was recently submitted, attach a copy of the title application receipt (VTR-500 RTS). If the vehicle is leased, attach a copy of the lease agreement. Note: To obtain exempt license plates, do not use this application; complete the Application for Standard Texas Exempt License Plates (Form VTR-62-A). Contact your county tax assessor -collector if you have any questions. The name of the county eligible department or office, and the name or position of the person designated to apply for license plates must be stated in the court order. ❑ Law enforcement: I certify these vehicle(s) are dedicated to law enforcement activities as required by Transportation Code, §502.451(f)(1). ❑ State agency: I certify my agency is exempt under Transportation Code, §721.003 from the requirement of displaying identification or inscription on agency vehicles and in compliance with rules of the Office of the Secretary of State, including filing required paperwork.
