Dear Ms. bon, .
The Grants Review Committee for the City of Lubbock/Lubbock Arts Alliance Cultural
Grants Program .has determined its recommendations for the June 2002 granting
period. As you will recall, this year's contract provided for $152,151.39 to be granted.
The committee has been delighted to see several new organizations apply over the -
past year. Attached are the results of the Review Committee's meeting held June 10,
2002. Nineteen applications were received on the June 1 deadline; fifteen were
recommended for full or partial funding and four were recommended for no funding.
The total amount requested from the program was $119,705. A total of $66,255 is
being recommended for funding. This amount reflects approximately half of the 2002
allocation and additional funds from the Texas Commission on the Arts. The committee
is strongly urging two of the groups which did not receive funding to apply again. With
this in mind they left $3,637 to be carried over to the next granting period.
In developing the funding recommendation for each application, the Grants Review
Committee followed guidelines approved by the City Council, a copy of which is
attached. As you will note, the criteria address, among other things, the projects
impact on tourism and education, access by members of the community, quality, and
the ability of the applicant to carry out the project.
Please submit the enclosed recommendations for the City Council's consideration at
your earliest convenience. A representative from the Grants Review Committee will
attend the July 11 meeting to make the presentation. If you have any questions, please
feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Libby Cam
Interim Executive Director
