HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 032464A - Request For Post Office Dept To Waive Rule Requiring Two Methods Of Ingress - 03_24_1964 j FOS:djl FT, ti- RESOLUTION 0 WHEREAS, it appears that the Yellowhouse Canyon Addition located adjacent to the boundary line of the City of Lubbock in the Southeast portion of the said City of Lubbock is now inhabited by approximately 65 families; and, WHEREAS, it appears that there now exis-0 a single means of ingress and egress to such Addition over an all weather road; and, WHEREAS, it appears that the inhabitants .of the said Yellowhouse Canyon Addition are being deprived of a regular mail delivery service because of a regulat on of the Post Office Department of the United States which requires that means of ingress and egress shall not require travel over the same road or street; and, WHEREAS, the inhabitants of said Yellowhouse Canyon Addition have petitio d the City of Lubbock to provide additional right of way for street purposes; and, WHEREAS, it appears that such additional right of way will cost a consideral Le amount of money but will not enhance any public facilities and is not at this time needed for any public purpose other than travel over and across such right of way; and, WHEREAS, it appears further to the City Council that the cost and expense o providing the right of way for an additional means of ingress and egress to said Addition is too costly and is an additional burden on the tax payers of the City of Lubbock which should not be incurred at this time and that if the rule of the Post Office Department which now prohibits the servicing of this area may be waived until such time a public necessity requires additional means of ingress and egress to such community it would thereby relieve the City of Lubbock of the burden of providing this additional means of ingress and egress at this time, NOW THEREFC RF BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City of Lubbock acting herein by and through its City Council herel y requests and urges the.Post Office Department of the United States of America to waive its present rule and regulation requiring two methods of ingress and egress from a certain area before providing its postal services to an area at this time in order to provide postal services to the approximately 65 families living in the Yellowhouse Canyon Addition which is adjacent to the Southeast portion of the City of Lubbock, and thereby relieve the City of Lubbock of this additional expense. THAT the City Secretary be and is hereby instructed to mail a copy of this Resolution to the Posf-Master General of the United States, Pos(Master of the Post Office of the,City of Lubbock, Texas, Honorable George Mahon, Member of the HouW-6f-Repre"sentatives, Honorable Ralph Yarborough and Honorable John G.
