Dear Sirs: Recognition of the alarming increase in use of drugs among the youth of our community has prompte my appearance before'you today. Feeling that immediate action must.be.taken to curtail the growt of drug use within our city my husband and I are prepared to offer both our service and the use c our building located at 2241 34th Street to be used as a clearing -house and information-counselin center for young people who have had unfortunate experience with the use of drugs. A number of local physicians, psychologists, -and concerned citizens have expressed their desire to contribute both time and talent in behalf of this endeavor. It will be our desire that the center serve as a place of'refuge.and help to affected families by offering trained volunteer counselors; able lecturers who will be available to speak to interested groups on the danger of drug use; printed materials relevant to our concern; a list of services and addresses of all agencies in our city who deal with the drug problem; and names of resource contacts for individua problems such as school drop -outs, etc. It will, also, be our desire to promote family harmony and understanding for these youngsters and their parents by offering group talk sessions designee to improve parent -child relations, supervised by trained leaders. All parents will be invited to attend study sessions on the adolescent years aimed at further improving all lines of communi- cation and understanding. We stress parent involvement, believing that every facet of society is molded in the home! The young people will be invited to take part in various recreational activities to be provided at the center --all with supervision by a trained volunteer. Further, the young people will be given an opportunity to attend study sessions on what it is like to be a parent, again with trained supervision. Families will be encouraged to attend center functions as a family group 2 ' 13 1969 69-28-392-1026 (8) and it is hoped that planned family gatherings at home will result, on a more frequent basis than is the present norm.
