FROM: Bob Honts, Director of Administration April 14, 1966 TO: William J. Pitstick, City Manager SUBJECT: Recommended Changes - Swimming Pool Rates Subsequent to the recommendations from the Parks and Recreation Commission and a request to analy- ze the 1965 swimming season attendance and receipts picture, the following is presented: 1. History In March, 1965, and subsequent to a comprehensive study of the Lubbock swim program, the City Council voted to increase the childrenSs (12 years and under) rate in four of the City's pools from 15(,% to 25, (the rates at Mae Simmons Pool were not changed), thus making the rate structure as shown: Four Pools Mae Simmons Pool Children (12 years and under) 25(,% 104 Teenagers (13 through 18) 35e, 25G Adults (19 years and above) 50t 50C. Also, it was decided to provide free swimming on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Mae Simmons, Rodgers, and MacKenzie pools. II. 1965 Swim Projzram Largely because of unfavorable weather, the swimming attendance in the 1965 season was down approximately 9.76 percent; nevertheless, the rate changes provided a small over- all revenue increase. It might be of interest to note that 17,634 persons took advantage of the newly initiated free swimming. The Swimming Pool Department missed the desired break even basis by $5,476 in the 1965 season. The Parks and Rec. Dir., in an attempt to improve the public swim program, increase the participation by the public at large, and reduce expenditures, submitted several sugges- tions for change to the Parks Board for discussion, such changes being itemized below: (1) Increase admission prices at Mae Simmons Pool to correspond with admissions at the other four public pools.
