The City Commission having on December 6, 1948, e mrloyed J.Roy McCoy (Minute Book 8, Page 299) to furnish a log of each of the following oil wells: Anton,Texas well, located on G.D.Hufstedler tract of land, Smyer,Texas Viell, located on Section 12 of R.M.Thompson Survey of Elli%,00d Tract of land, Tobe Foster well, located on Carl Foster tract in N.E.Lubbock County, the following report was furnished the Commission on this date; covering the Tobe Foster Well and the Anton Oil J3 Tucker B. J.ROY HcCOY Consulting Geblo;cist & Eftpineer 3102 30th St. Lubbock,Texas January 13, 1949 City of Lubbock Lubhock,Texas Gentleman; As per your instructions, I have made a siarvev of two 'txells in the Lubbock area. The object _)f this survey vas to see if there are anv dee; er sands which might carry water enou!-,h to be of anv, future value to the- town of Lubbock for city water. A secondary of iect of the survey would be, if a sand is found, Is it of vide spread enou~h area to be of value to the i'lains. The first well from 15ihich cuttings were ex mined was the Tobe Foster ;ill Carl Foster in the north-west quarter of section four,Block A. It is approximately two miles North-east of Lubbock To,;nsite . The samples were examined under a -nicroscol e from der•ths of 400 1 to 15001. It is the opinion of the undersigned that there are no sands below that depth, an] if there were, they would contain gyp and salt water. The sec,:,nd well studied was the Anton Oil W3 Tucker B, its location is South -.vest quarter of section 33, Block 1, R.T.T.Thoripson Survey. It is in the South-east corner of Lamb County. Please find enclosed a sample log of each of the two wells. Please note on the Tobe Foster log several sands. They were found at the following de;:ths. 540 to 554 Course Angular Porous 610 to 630 Shaly fine red dirty 910 to 980 Fine to coarse rorous an-,ular of these sands listed above, only the last one has sufficient development to be of any value in this problem. The upper tv:o sands at 540 and 610 are probably lenticular and would have no wide aerial coverare. The.sand which came in at 910 has all the characteristics of a basic conglomerate, and should be a wide spread source bed. This fact is born out by its presence in the well at Anton. It is tight and fine at the tole and grades into a course conglomerate. Inmediately below the sand the shale becomes a rich marroon red of different type observed above. The undersigned believes that the base of the sand i-s the opening time of some Geologic ;period. There are no sands belo1v this depth. You will see on the log of the Ant n Oil 13 Tucker B a few scattered t'i in btreaks of sand at the foll of -ing depths, 640 to 60 Cohrse tight sand 690 to 700 Coarse slightly -orous 720 to 730 Fine tight 790 to 800 Medium Coarse porous 1000 to 1040 Coarse porous Angular All of these sands except the last are lenticular and may contain ' some water but will have' no wide distribution. The sand that C.-me in at f 1000, is rrobably the same one that was seen in the Tobe Foster well at 910! Again this sand had the characteristics of a basic conglomerate. This bears out the ori:-•inal thought that the zone would be great in aerial .. distribution. Samples from all the sand sections of the Tobe Foster wdll were sent to the Dowell Acid Company laboratory for analysis. Their I findings were that the samples did not contain enough salt for the forma- tions to contain briny salt water, however the water could be sli-ht salty or Brackish. It is the opinion of the undersigned that the best chance for deep water on the Plains will be in the zone found on these two logs be- tween 900 and 1000. This sand should be wide spread, it has good thick develorment. It has good porosity and rermiability. The laboratory indi- cates that the water might not be salty. 1. NO Please let the writer urge caution of o-timism, becaus6 the zone might not carry any fluid which would explain the lack of salt in the cuttings. Sincerely (signed) J. RoY__McCoZ_________ J.Roy McCoy geologist After consideration of the report, motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Hufstedler, carried unanimously, to accert the report on the two above named wells, and authorize r,ayrnent of the $200.00 per well, in accordance ith agreement i.rith Mr. McCoy. Abernathy, in March of 1948. The proposition of the proposed settlement being generally as follows: 1. That the City of Lubbock will make viater accessible to an addition to be put on by AZrs. Abernathy on the property noij owned by her and a d acent to Mackenzie State Park. 2.
