(Signed) (Signed) J.J. Tyson Yours truly, Mrs M Sue Dyson Accepted by the Governing body of the City of Lubbock, this 22nd day of Dec., 1947• C A Bestwick Mayo r Attest: Lavenia Williams City Secretary Letter, as follows, was read from the Committee appointed by the City Commission to investigate the taking over of the Lubbock Cemetery by the City of Lubbock. The Honor, ble Mayor & C ity Commissioners City of Lubbock Gentlemen: After coTisiderable delay we would like to submit our suggestions for the City's operation of the Lubbock Cemetery after January 1, 1948. We have made numerous inquiries and visted several City operated cemeteries. We recommend that a Cemetery board consisting of five interested citizens be named by the commission, their terms to be staggered in such a manner that one man's term would expire every two years. We recommend the Cemetery be operated under the supervision of the Park superintendent and that he serve as a member of the Cemetery board in an ex-officio capacity, part of his salary being charged to the Cemetery account. We further suggest a Sexton be hired to work in conjunction with the park superintendent. His duties would be the sale of lots, selling of service to old lots and the general supervision of the entire cemetery. vie find thr,t on an average the present price of our lots are considerably less than other city o_ erated cemetery's. ',tie feel to make this department self-sustaining, our lots should be prices at approximately $0.60 per square foot. Also, that considerable revenue could be derived by the servicing of lots in the old cemetery payable yearly in advance. And further, we recommend that a charter be adopted, embodying the rules and regulations to be strictly adhered to, covering the entire operations of the Cemetery and modeling after the charter used by the City of Waco. From our investigations, we feel there is little doubt but what our local cemetery can be made a, place of beauty, and one Lubbock can be proud of, with little or no a xpense to the City if given the attention it deserves bb a capable cemetery board. Thanking you to consider the above suggestions, we are Yours very truly, (Signed) O.W. Ribble Joe I:islar Charles R.
