and Commissioners Morris, Davis and Thomas voting Yea, none voting Nay, to change the city
tax assessment on the Jones -Roberts Shoe Store located at 2443 - 34th Street from $7500 to
$4,995 due to an error as outlined in the following lbtter and affidavit regarding this assess
ment .
October 21, 1952
Board of City Commissioners
Lubbock, Texas
Gentlemen:
After receiving our statment for school and city taxes on our Store #2, located at 2443 34th
Street, we find that a mistake was made in rendering personal property for taxes on this
Store #2.
The undersigned representative of Jones -Roberts Shoe Store requests- a hearing and revaluation
by the board on this personal property assessment. We are prepared to show that the $7,500.00
assessment, as turned in, exceeds two-thirds the total value of the property, by allowing the
board to read the original copy of the sales contract through which our firm purchased the
property from Drs. Marshall Harvey and Julian McDonald, doing business as Har-Mac Shoes.
(Attached find extract of Paragraph 1 of Sales Contract which is on file in County Clerk's
Office.)
The error lies in the fact that the amount of $7,500.00 was the total value of the property
after being received by our firm on February 1, 1952, and the assessed value should be
two-thirds of the above -amount, or $4,995.00. If the board will refer to the previous Yearts
assessment rendered by Drs. Harvey and hcDonald, previous owners, the board will find that
yearts assessment at $3,500.00 We trust the board will agree with us that the valuation of
the property could not have more than doubled in one year.
Very truly yours,
