Motion by commissioner Price, seconded, carried, that payment of 0";75.00 per month to the texas estate Guard be continued until the operation of the Guard is taken over by the estate of Texas. The City commission having authorized the City Manager to request permission from the State larks Board to construct "Kim Drive" and remove fence between the Mackenzie State -l-ark and ibernathy property, the following letter was read from the I -ark commission in this regard: Lubbock, Texas, Nov. 2, 1946. Mr. Homer A. Hunter, City Manager, City Subject: Mackenzie Stage Park. Abernathy suit. Dear Mr. Hunter: - With reference to following excerpts from ,your letter of October 29th: Plaintiff's attorneys offering vri.thdrawal of possible claim if road constructed along east boundary of Park and fence removed between Abernathy property and Park. "City might be willing to do this if the State Parks Board would permit the road to be constructed and the fence removed". "We shall appreciate your reviewinp, these two items and advising us of your wishes in the case". It i the unanimous opinion of the Park Commission, that we strongly oppose any ence removal making other entrances or entrance to the lark as our control problem is already difficult with the two entrances. For ,your information, park authority experience has been that successful control of a large perk is in direct rati6 to number of entrances. Mackenzie is the only State Park having two entrances. Having two was in, the nature of a compromise and against the better judgment of the National Park Service. The NPS refused to develop the Park until the old Emma xoad (4th St.) going through the Park had been closed bi the County and it had been agreed that the Park would be entirely enclosed with fence. We have no objection to a road outside the nark fence on the east or any other side. ':e have submitted our .-)pinion to the estate narks Board. The Board author- ities concur and offer their support and assistance. Sincerely yours, Lubbock Park Commission By (signed) K.N. Olapp K.N. Clapp, Chairman KNC-s cc Mr. Vaughn E.-ilson, City Attorney. Texas State -Larks Board Members Park Commission.
