W. Minton for repair to his 1949 Chevrolet tudor automobile resulting from a collision at 17th Street and Avenue H. City Commission City Hall Lubbock, Texas Gentlemen: I wish to submit ik claim for damages to our car which resulted from an accident which happened on May 29, 1953, about 1:15 P.M. just short of the intersection of Avenue H and 17th Street. I was driving south on Avenue H, and as I reached 17th Street, the light had turned t o caution and someone had started walking across the street, so I stopped rather quickly to avoid running (- them down. By the time I had come to a stop the light was of course, -on red. A truck which I understand is owned by the City of Lubbock, and driven by Mr. William C. Thomrson was following me very closely and did not stop but hit my car from the rear. I feel that the circumstances con- sidered., the truck was at fault in that he was travelling at a somewhat greater speed than I was before I made the stop, and rather too closely to have the truck under proper control. - I understand that you gentlemen are of the opinion that the City has no legal liability in accidents, but I also understand that you are considerate of proper claims for property damaged by City vehicles, and I ask that we be reimbursed for the damage. Three estimates for the necessary repairs are attached and you may take the lowest of these estimates; however, the need of the car is so urgent, that we have had Kuykendall Chevrolet Company commence the repairs. We work there and bought the car there , so we feel better about them doing the repair work. Respectfully yours, _ /s / Mrs. J. W. Minton Driver /s / J. W. Minton Owner There was duscussion of the claim, the lowest estimate received for repair for said automobile from the Kuykendall Chevrolet Company irAhe amount of $299.47; two other bids for said repair were submitted by Mr. Minton one in the amount of $333.56 and the other,in the amount of $315.79.
