The following petition requesting widening and repaving of Main Street from Avenue P to
Avenue Q was received by the City Commission.
City of Lubbock
Engineering Department
City Hall
Attention: Bill Hdmes
City Engineer
Dear Sir:
We, the undersigned Property Owners abutting on Main Street between Avenue P and Avenue Q,
hereby petition the City Commission to widen said street pavement from the present 36, width
to a width of 58' at the earliest possible time on the existing 60r street width aid at no
cost to the Pnperty Owners.
The reasons for making the request in this manner are as follows:
1. We have failed in a vigorous attemp to get a petition signed by the abutting property
owners agreeing:
a. To pay $3.53 per linear foot for the proposed widening, and
j b. To give an extra 51 of Right-of-way on each side of the street to the City
I for use as sidewalk area.
Thisfailure has been due to a few homestead property owners who want all of the widening
to come off of the North side of the street, and others that feel they have paid for pavement
once and do not feel that they should pay again.
2. There is definite traffic "bottle -neck" in this block that would be greatly releived
by this widening. We beleive the traffic of the City of Lubbock, as a whole, would benefit
by this improvement.
3. Businesses are moving out Main Street and this area will made desirable business
locations as soon as the traffic problems can be solved.
