Dear Mr. Clifton:
Due to the increase in the number of school children throughout Lubbock and especially in
the Southwest part of the City it has become necessary that we provide special service to
the Junior High and High Schools throughout the city.
At the existing tare rate we are transporting all children at a loss. V,'e are enclosing our
usual monthly operating statement which bears out this loss.
We wish to propose the following rate for children:
Children under 12 years 7¢
School children going to and from
school 7¢ in books of 20 tickets
We would appreciate a hearing on this matter as soon as possible, because any changes that may
be made should be effective before the starting of school in September.

i-14-202-431 The following petition was received from business men in the vicinity of 27th and 28th St., East
from Avenue H, requestingthat Avenue E be operEd from 26th to 27th Street over the Ft. Worth and
Denver Railroad right-of-way.
Director of Public Works
City of Lubbock
Lubbock, Texas
Dear Sir:
The following list of business men in the vicinity of 27th and 28th Strec.:ts east from Avenue H request
that Avenue E be opened from 26th to 27th Street.
There are no streets .from Avenue E to Avenue A from 30th Street north to the Ft. Worth and Denver
Tracks.
The opening of Avenue E to 26th Street would give access to Avenue A from the ends of 27th, 28th and
29th streets at Avenue E.
There is a large amount of traffic on 27th street alone that must turn back to Avenue H to get through
to Avenue A.
We understand that this property has been dedicated as a street in Volume 312, page 300, of the County
records.
Please give this matter careful thought and investigation.
If one, or all, of the undersigned can assist
in any way
in opening this street,
please feel free to
call on us at any time.

Frontier Saving Stamps, Inc.
2109 Avenue Q Lubbock, Texas
August 6, 1955
H. P. Clifton
City Manager
Jubbock, Texas
Dear Mr. Clifton:
In regards to our request to close the 50 by 15 foot alley which extends into our property from
Avenue J at the corner of 34th and Avenue H, we respectfully request that you consider our
compensating the City of Lubbock for this property in the following amounts: 290 per square foot
for the 750 square feet in question, which would amount to $217.50, and in addition to this
amount we would pay, if you so desire, a charge of t1 per foot for the sewer. It is my belief
that there is 30 feet of sewer involved. On this basis our total compensation for the closing
of this alley would be 'P'247.50.
The alley in question has been a part of and adjacent to our property at 34th and Avenue H over the
years. When we purchased this property, we paid 29¢ a square foot for it. After the original purchase
we bought a lot which was cut out of our original property, and with this purchase we squared up
our property and made it much more funetionaole for our development. Actually we could have done
without this additional property, however with the acquisition of it we made our overall property
much more pleasing in sight to our customers.
.ode respectfully request that you review this condition and ALvorably consider our request.
Respectfully yours,
FRONTIER SAVING STAYTS, INC.

Dear Tir. Clifton:
This is to confirm our conversation relative to the engaging of our services for a preliminary report
on your electrical utility expansion program. As I stated to you, the cost for such a report involves:

This study and report could be conducted on the basis of direct labor cost involved -plus 100% plus
any travel, hotel and living expenses outside the home office that might be involved. The cost of such
study and report would not exceed $7500.
The 100% addition that is prorosed is to take care of office overhead and profit and is to be considere
only on the direct labor costs involved in such study and not upon other expenses, such as travel, eto.
The time required to make such study and submitil-ing the report will be 5 to 6 weeks.
Should further negotiations and conferences be carried on with the public service company and, for
which you would want our firm in an advisory capacity, such service could be extended on the basis of
$100 per diem charge plus travel and hotel and living expenses involved.
Should you later see fit to aw,.rd us the contract for engineering design, pre-paration of plans
and specifications for the expansion of the power plant, this preliminary study fee would be included
in the overall 5% engineering: fee. This 5% engineering fee is predicated upon the actual construction
costs involved in the installation of additional equipment in your power plant. The above 5% fee
would include all costs for engineering design,'gen_cal supervision, and any other expenses, travel
or otherwise, that might be inialved.
I want to particularly thank you and the Mayor for your
