Lubbock, Texas, August 12, 1936. The Honorable Ma; or & City Conmission, Lubbock,Texas. Gentlemen: Subject: Odor Control at Sewage Disposal Plant The Chlorinator that we have on a 60 day trial periodfbr use tith the Ferrous Chloride treatment of our selvage for odor control has been in operation since July 11, 19369 The 60 day trial period will end on Sept. 11, 1936. I have made inspection trips over the affected area almost every night since the Chlorinator was installed and in my opinion the odors have decreased considerably. I have found the follow- ing conditions: No odors detected and no complaints received any where on Collector line from Chlorinator to Disposal Plant; faint odors can be detected on East Broads+ray about one-third of the tine and about the same conditions are noticeable at and near the Disposal Plant; have not been able to detect any odors any farther North of the Disposal Plant than Broadway; odors from the server farm have decreased considerably but are still noticeable near the storage tanks almost any night,, hoi:aever, I have not been able to detect a sewage odor on East 19th otreet (dylie Puckett Road) with the exception of one night a faint sewage odor could be detected. I would appreciate it if the City Commission would do some investigation on the effects and results of the treatment and for your information I am presenting a map along with this letter that shows the sources of odors that ray be detected, and a general outline of the area in which odors may be found. I "ould also appreciate any suggestions that you may have relative to obtaining the results we aEe getting from the treatment. I shall be glad to go with the onnission any night on an inspection of the affected area. Yours very truly, I1001w ( Signed) E.R. Smith, Jr., M.R.
