ORDINANCE NO. 8187
AN ORDINANCE by the City Council of the City of Lubbock, Texas, authorizing the

May 1, 1981, for the purpose of making permanent public improvements, to wit:
$16,200,000 for constructing improvements and extensions to the City's Waterworks
System and $550,000 for constructing street improvements in and for said City;
prescribing the form of the bonds and the form of the interest coupons; levying a
continuing direct annual ad valorem tax on all taxable property within the limits of
said City to pay the interest on said bonds and to create a sinking fund for the
redemption thereof and providing for the assessment and collection of such taxes;
enacting provisions incident and relating to the subject and purpose of this ordinance;
and providing an effective date.
Consider a resolution regarding State Legislative districts.
The City Manager apprised the Council that Resolution No. 777, which was passed by the
Council on April 9, 1981 endorsing new boundary lines for the State Legislative Districts,
did not clearly reflect that each district was to be comprised of approximately 94,000
residents, which is one of the criteria for redistricting. To achieve this appropriate
composit, it will be necessary for one of the districts to go out into the County. Mayor
McAlister suggested that possibly the Council merely rescind the existing Resolution at
this time and take under study the alternatives available for arriving at the appropriate
composit population of 94,000 inasmuch as this will extend beyond the corporate city
limits.
The motion was made by Councilwoman Baker to rescind Resolution No. 777 and to consider
the matter redistricting at the next regular meeting to be held on May 14, 1981. Motion
carried: Mayor McAlister, Councilmen Brown and Aderton and Councilwoman Baker voting Yea;
none voting Nay; Mayor Pro Tem Henry absent.
There being no further business, the motion was made by Councilwoman Baker, seconded by
Councilman Aderton to adjourn at 11:40 a.m. Motion carried: Mayor McAlister, Councilmen
Brown and Aderton and Councilwoman Baker voting Yea; none voting Nay; Mayor Pro Tem. Henry
absent. _0,1 J
